Free Tree distributions are one of a number of activities ICT Trees sponsors to publicize the value and benefit of trees but is one of the most costly.

ICT Trees strategically targets free tree distributions to core neighborhoods in or near Wichita’s NASA designated “urban heat islands.”  Urban heat islands are areas in the city where the built environment — streets, parking lots, buildings — and loss of green space and tree canopy cause temperatures significantly greater than other parts of Wichita.  Significantly increasing the number of trees in or near these heat islands can reduce temperatures in surrounding neighborhoods as much as 8 to 12 degrees.
